Lantau Trails in a Week
Who: Years 9, 10, 12 & 13
Where: Lantau Island CAS Element: Activity |
Anticipated Cost: $350
|
The Lantau trail is one of Hong Kong's most famous hikes, a 70km loop beginning and ending in Mui Wo. The trail is split into twelve sections, the first half of which will see you climb Sunset Peak and Lantau Peak, Hong Kong’s second and third highest mountains and walk along mountain ridges before dropping down to the coast.
The second half is much easier, with some particularly beautiful coastal views and traditional rural villages following luscious long beaches before your final ascent over Tai Ngau Wu and returning to Mui Wo.
We will break this trail down and by hiking 15 to 20 km per day we will complete a few 'stages' and extensions each day, by the end of the week we will have completed the whole of the Lantau Trail and ascended some of Hong Kong's highest peaks.
Experience
You need to be reasonably fit and have done a little hiking previously. As a guide, if you have previously enjoyed hiking the Dragon's Back or The Morning Trail to the Peak then this activity is for you.
Costs
You will need to take the daily ferry (approx HKD30 each way) and a public bus each day to the start or from the finish of that day's hiking (approx HKD10 each way). As lunches will be alfresco on the hill you will need to bring a daily packed lunch and lots of drinking water.
Equipment
Some decent hiking shoes, sun hat and sun screen will be required.
